Tell Congress: Don't Tax My Credit Union. It's a Tax on Me.

Protecting Our Credit Union

As an important team member here at Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union, I’m reaching out to make sure you are aware of an issue on Capitol Hill that could affect the financial services we provide to our members. It’s imperative that we keep you informed about potential threats to the credit union and our ability to provide members the best possible financial services.

As not-for-profit financial cooperatives, credit unions like Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union do not pay the federal corporate income tax on profits. Our people-first, member-owned structure means we instead return those earnings to our members in a variety of ways, including more affordable loans and better returns on savings.

But there are Wall Street bank lobbyists and politicians in Congress who want to tax credit unions, which really means a new tax on every person who uses our credit union and the more than 140 million other Americans who choose a credit union as their financial partner.

This is a significant threat to the future of our credit union. By putting a new tax on not-for-profit credit unions, the big Wall Street banks know they can eliminate competition and increase bank profits. But it doesn’t make sense to put a new tax on credit unions – ultimately a new tax on people who choose to keep their money in a credit union instead of a bank.

You know firsthand the impact our credit union has on the people we serve. That’s why your voice and action are so important. No matter what role you hold here at Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union, we are united in helping our members succeed financially. This effort on Capitol Hill puts our efforts – and members – at risk.

Please act today to contact your U.S. Representative and Senators and tell them Don’t Tax My Credit Union through our easy-to-use Action Center. Help us protect our credit union and members, and the millions of families across the country who rely on their credit unions, too. Your voice is important. Nothing is more powerful to elected officials than when they hear from constituents like you.
